Terrible Machine

If I could give this ice maker a 0 star I would. I have had it in my house for a year and six months and the motor went out. It is over $800 to replace it. I have always cleaned it when it says and changed the filters. This has been the worst appliance I have ever owned. For this price the bottom part where the ice goes should come out for easy dumping and cleaning. It is hard to clean on top of it and the parts do not last. I was shocked when I smelt a burning smell and it turned out to be the motor. I am afraid to purchase this item cost at over $800 for it to only last another year. DO NOT BUY. I would have just gotten a counter top one had I known.

I purchase this model 7 years ago in our new home. It worked great and never let us down. When we built our new home last year we went back with the same appliance. In less than six months the ice maker burned up. The local distributor replaced it because GE will not stand behind their product. Now the new replacement is no longer working in less than a 3 month time frame. The distributor is great but GE keeps their hands tied DO NOT BUY THIS ICE MAKER

While the ice is great, the performance is not. Our ice maker hasn't worked for four months so we missed our entire summer of cocktail making in the first year of owning the ice maker. It's a $3500 door in our beautiful new kitchen. Do not recommend.

We have had this ice machine for a year. Didn™™t get extended warranty because I thought for the price of 3400,00 it would last longer than this .My husband replaced stuff on it and still doesn™™t work . I cleaned and did everything I was supposed to do . I will never buy this machine again .

Disappointing Experience for the Price

We purchased the GE Cafà nugget ice maker with high hopes, especially given the brand name and the price point. I™™ll be honest, when it works, the ice is fantastic, exactly the soft, chewable nugget ice we wanted. But unfortunately, the reliability and performance have been a major letdown.
From the start, the machine has been loud. I expected some humming or operational noise, but this goes well beyond that. It frequently makes strange, grinding or squealing sounds that seem anything but normal. At times, it™™s loud enough to disrupt conversation in the room or wake someone sleeping nearby. We™™ve had to move it to a less-used space just to keep from being driven crazy by the noise.
Even worse, the machine has been inconsistent when it comes to actually making ice. It randomly stops producing ice or freezes up entirely. We™™ve had to unplug and restart it more times than I can count. For the cost of this unit, I would expect much better quality and dependability.
This is actually our second GE Cafà nugget ice maker. Our first one had the exact same problems, and we were able to exchange it, thinking maybe we just got a lemon. But the replacement started doing the same thing all over again. That tells me this is a design or quality issue, not a one-off.
Customer service has been responsive but not especially helpful. The troubleshooting advice hasn™™t resolved the core issues, and frankly, for the price we paid, I shouldn™™t have to be this hands-on just to get ice.
I wanted to love this machine. It looks beautiful on the counter and, when functioning, the ice is everything I hoped for. But the constant noise, freezing issues, and unreliability make it hard to recommend. I would suggest doing more research and possibly looking at other brands before committing to this one.

So far, NOT impressed! We recently built a new home and we were excited about having all new GE Cafe model appliances.
We ordered a Nugget Ice Maker and received a Clear Ice Maker. We didn™™t realize this until it was already installed!
Then, the Clear Ice Maker made approximately 20 cubes before shutting down with an error message of Change Filter! We ordered a new filter thinking the original made have been bad. Nope! Installed new filter and getting same error! Now waiting on the repairman to come this afternoon to diagnose our BRAND NEW ice maker.

I™™ve had my ice maker for less than two years and I™™ve had nothing but problems. I™™ve been faithful in cleaning and changing the filter. But not even the certified repairman fix it.
